The singular vision for the new A.K. Rikk’s flagship store was to have an alluring, sophisticated retail space that expresses the high-quality and finely tailored merchandise offered to its clientele in architectural language. The interior architecture and retail design needed to provide a composition of vignettes that could feature single brands within the larger context of the store without detracting from a cohesive identity.
The most significant challenges were related to the irregularities of an existing structure. We went to great lengths to bring existing walls and floors into level. Attention to detail required constant vigilance; seemingly small details significantly impacted the architecture. It was a challenge to incorporate large expanses of glass into the design while providing enough wall cases and displays.
The beauty of the concourse is the result of finding the proper balance between the two. The architecture is a composition of balanced forms made of simple, sophisticated materials rich in color and texture. It gives the gift of amazement, showing customers things they have never before seen, exceeding expectations at every turn.
The design is centered around the 30 x 158-foot concourse, with an average ceiling height of 28 feet, which is the backbone for smaller, intimate spaces and vignettes at its edges. It is flooded with natural daylight, making the entire store highly visible and understandable, allowing customers to circulate easily. The result is a landmark project known state-wide as a premier retail destination.
