Rhyse Altman is an architectural designer at Visbeen Architects who specializes in traditional residential projects. He attended Illinois-based Judson University, earning a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in architecture with a concentration in traditional architecture and urbanism.
Upon graduating, Rhyse returned to his native state of Michigan to serve as an Architectural and Urbanism Consultant with the Village of Kalkaska, where he assisted in a downtown development strategy and master plan. He then spent two years in Washington, D.C., working on historical home projects in Alexandria, Virginia, before joining the team at Visbeen Architects in 2014.
As an architectural designer, Rhyse manages construction documents for different projects and interacts with clients early in the design process. He enjoys the early conceptualization stage and the opportunity to work on finishes when the project is nearing completion.
Rhyse is also a member of the Michigan Chapter of the Congress for the New Urbanism. His graduate thesis on urban design and a City Hall proposal for Grand Rapids were featured in the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art’s The Classicist.
Rhys and his wife, Jill, live in a 1928-built bungalow in Hudsonville, Michigan. Weekends often find Rhys tinkering with engines or transmissions or playing board games with his family. Evenings and weekends are typically spent in the company of loved ones. Together, Rhys and Jill enjoy raising their twin daughters. Favorite destinations include botanical gardens, playgrounds, and splash pads. Beyond family, Rhys dedicates his time to serving his hometown on the planning commission.
